Winter Fun Activities
Looking for some ways to stay connected to nature this winter? Here are some ideas for outdoor activities that the whole family can enjoy!
Red-Tail Land Conservancey
Red-tail Land Conservancy preserves, protects and restores natural areas and farm land in east central Indiana while increasing awareness of Indiana's natural heritage. A regional land trust, RLC permanently protect 2,625 acres in the six county region of Madison, Delaware, Henry, Randolph, Wayne and Tipton counties. Protecting the land is just the first step, the hard work continues as they restore and steward these natural places.
At Red-tail they believe connecting people to nature is a critical element of their mission. By increasing awareness of Indiana's natural heritage they will grow future generations who will protect what they learn love. Their preserved natural areas offer excellent places for people to experience nature and learn about wild things. Over one-third of the land RLC protects is set aside as nature preserves which are open to the public. Old growth forests, prairies, wetlands and river habitats are protected in the preserves. Red-tail places a high priority on protecting natural areas in the White, Mississinewa and Blue River watersheds. A nature trail guide including a full description of the properties and their locations can be downloaded at RLC's website.
There are no nature centers or facilities at Red-tail properties. The trails may be enjoyed by the public from dawn to dusk. They offer guided hikes, events and are happy to arrange programs throughout the year for groups. Contact them through the website to arrange a speaker or visit for your group, or download materials to plan your own nature adventure. Check their site frequently for updated offerings and materials.
